Who is who?

Jon Shorter
Jon ShorterHi I'm Jon, a 33 year old "mature" student just enjoying the holiday between my 2nd year and placement year at UWE in Bristol.

Being a poor student renewed my interest in cycling last year, with Bristol also being the country's number one city for cyclists. I tend to chop and change between running and cycling and last year successfully cycled unaided from London to Monaco to raise money for a Chester charity (see www.londonmonaco.org)

The planning's been a lot of fun for this challenge, so has the training. The hardest thing when cycling long distance is to make sure you take on enough calories. Burning 6000kCal in a day means you're having to break every 1 -2 hours for food and electrolyte drinks (to replace your body's salts). If you don't, you 'bonk' .. or, as runners say, you 'hit the wall'... that's generally when you go all faint, get cramp, and wish you were at home in front of the TV.

Please keep an eye on our website - we'll need your support!! - there'll be plenty to see on our site, with live GPS tracking, our diary in blog form, and a guest-book where you can leave words of encouragement and abuse.

Thanks for stopping by the site - and if you could spare a few quid to support the amazing work that the Prostate Cancer charity do and/or a donation to help us along with our costs we'd be eternally grateful.

Jack Brazier
Jack BrazierGood day gentlemen. I'm Jack Brazier, a 20 year old student currently living in Bristol, whilst studying Forensic Computing at UWE. This started off as a brief discussion about cycling between me and Jon; I have no idea how it got this far.

I've only really taken an interest to cycling in the past year; it provided me with a quick way for me to get to and from uni. I have never ever cycled a distance anywhere close to this. With only 2 months of training for this event (yes I know 2 months is nothing!), there's no doubt that this will be the most physically challenging experience I've ever faced.

"You're a mentalist!" they said. "You're just DAMN CRAZY." - some of the responses I've had to the idea of me cycling 1000 miles in 2 weeks. However, being 100% manly, this only fuelled my determination more.

I will also be investing in a new bike specifically for this event, as my current one (described in a review as 'A nice sturdy doorstop.') barely manages the 2 miles from my house to uni. Regardless, I'm really excited to begin this, and would greatly appreciate any support in form of donations to the Prostate Cancer Charity as well as a few pennies for our own costs.

Thank you all, Jack Brazier
